For more than 3 years, Expernova has actively participated in the identification of experts’ competencies and has introduced technologies accompanying its clients in their efforts to reach scientific expertise. Our company’s research work is conducted in partnership with the National Science Research Center (CNRS), Montpellier 2 University, and Montpellier’s Laboratory of information system, Robotics and Microelectronics (LIRMM). We propose a complete system based upon web semantic approaches and data mining.
Millions of scientific documents analyzed
Expernova’s engine is capable of analyzing millions of documents from a variety of databases and sources. Each laboratory, firm or person in the system obtains a unique scientific profile. This profile provides a quick access to the foundations of its expertise and an in depth analysis of its works and specializations. Entirely updated in order to remain up to date with the latest scientific progress, those profiles which are based on mapping algorithms are the foundation of Expernova’s technology.
They allow the system’s users to easily identify experts or expertise centers in more than 420 scientific areas and among more than 2 million concepts.
Identify, understand and follow experts’ activity
Find a laboratory and identify their added value are two different processes. What is the laboratory’s specialization? What experts’ projects have developed their group? What is the unique expertise of each of its researcher? What is the best person in the field?
Expernova uses a computing algorithm that detects each individual’s specialization and the uniqueness of their expertise. Each expertise is then tested in the scientific thematic it belongs to. For instance, a cloning expert is mapped out in life sciences, philosophy and economy.
Expernova’s system also allows to adjust the various identification signals coming from scientific documents (publications with or without proofreading, copyrights, projects…), interventions categorized based on their credibility (position at conferences, recognition, prizes…), declarative data, impact on various networks…Whether the information is structured, it is constantly filtered and classified.
Experts who communicate the most and are the most often solicited are not the only ones to participate to the thematic. It is up to the users to select the criteria they want (publication volume, specialization, collaboration network, activity regarding industrial projects…)
