No simple diagnostic test for IBS exists currently, however, there is increasing evidence that there are dietary and immunological components to this disorder, and that food specific IgG may be a useful diagnostic marker. It is proposed that this project will : i) conduct epidemiological research to establish the usefulness of food-reactive IgG as a dietary marker for IBS ii) use the knowledge acquired in iii) to develop a rapid, one-step, point-of-care test to identify the dietary trigger of IBS.
