Low temperature engines are an obvious choice for power generation, but there are few suitable machines The Supercritical Power Converter from Slovakia generates electricity from waste heat, and solar energy. It uses dense phase fluids to achieve conversion efficiencies of 10% (>60% of Carnot) and produce electricity for less than E0.05/kWh Low grade heat is a carbon free source of electricity. A 10% conversion of existing industrial waste heat would save 70PJ/yr of primary energy, the equivalent of 4mill ton/yr of CO2, with a market worth of Euro250 mill. The solar potential is larger than this. the project will investigate a 0.5-&kW version of the engine in market specific applications. The partners will verify the product concept and determine the path to commercial exploitation. From the results the partners can establish engine manufacture in Slovakia in 2002.
