The Department of European Studies was created in 1991 as the first of its kind in Denmark. The department belongs to the Institute of History and Area Studies and is a partner in the Jean Monnet Centre at Aarhus University.
The Department of European Studies conducts research in a wide variety of European subjects focusing on both the European Union and wider Europe. Among the prioritised themes of research are: - concepts and discourses of identity in Europe and European identity politics; - history of key concepts in European self-perception; minorities and minority rights in Europe; - nationalism and multiculturalism in Europe; - cultural policies of the European Union; - cultural construction of European integration; - language policies in Europe; - integration of immigrants in Europe; - European and EU history; - EU’s policies towards agriculture and foods; - financing structure of the EU; - Foreign politics in the EU; - role of Norden in Europe; - role of Central and Eastern European countries in Europe; - language, communication and gender in Europe |
