Hide objective
The objective of this proposal is to develop a standards-based, comprehensive solution for the integration of heterogeneous services. There exist a large number of heterogeneous services (e.g. web services, p2p services, grid services), which employ different/incompatible architectural models, protocols, and standards for service description, discovery and composition. However, there is no infrastructure or tools available for facilitating the integration and interoperability of such services. This project aims to bridge this gap by developing a collection of models, languages and open source corresponding middleware we refer to as Service-Oriented Development In a Unified framework (SODIUM). SODIUM supports the comprehensive (i.e., from modeling to application implementation) visual service composition, analysis, execution, management and monitoring of heterogeneous (web, p2p, and grid) services, in an open and unified manner. Project results will be positioned to contribute to standardization activities in service composition. These results include: Standards-based languages: a Visual Service Composition Language for the unified composition of heterogeneous services, a Unified Service Composition Language for the execution of service compositions and a Unified Service Query Language to support the unified discovery of p2p, grid and web services. A service model incorporating all required characteristics for describing any type of service, i.e. service interface, functional, non-functional, behavioural and Quality of Service aspects. An open source visual and unified service composition suite for constructing and analyzing compositions of heterogeneous services in the form of a graph at multiple levels. An open source run-time middleware to support execution and monitoring of compositions of heterogeneous services. A methodology for service composition Two pilots in health and crisis management will be used as a basis for requirements and validation of results.
