Hide general information
The ECMA project offers an on-line multimedia server platform that will provide a rigorous and up-to-date instrument for understanding the evolution, the problems and strategies of the cities of Europe today, with special development of information about projects and interventions in public space. This project, oriented towards the professional, business and academic sectors, is conceived as a start-up endeavour. Three countries will be worked with -Portugal, Spain and France- in terms of their urban systems and the one-by-one analysis of 21 cities. As the project advances, the team will incorporate additional European partners, to include other countries and cities of the European Union. The contents core, will be prepared by specialists in each of the areas concerned, and will incorporate text, thematic cartography, iconography, bibliography and documentation of the sources and material employed. These contents will refer, first, to the urban systems evolution and recent processes, and afterwards, each selected city will be analysed in three major blocks: urban legacy, recent strategies and processes, and interventions in the public space. The basic documentation is largely the result of projects carried out by the CCCB and will be expanded in terms of the current project. Access to the EcmA Core will be by two clearly differentiated routes: geographical navigation (Atlas) and thematic navigation (Data City). The originality of this project is that in addition to these contents there will be Directories devoted to the advertaising and dissemination of the institutions involved in the definition of urban strategies and planning, and the companies and professional services associated with the interventions in the public space. In both cases it will be possible for the participants to incorporate further information. The ECMA project will also incorporate a Review and an open space of News for debate and reflection on the urban space in Europe. The interventions to be undertaken during the definition phase will have the following aims: firstly, to guarantee the accuracy, quality and usefulness of the contents; saecondly, to make known the ECMA project in each of the countries taking part, in order to ensure the participation of public bodies, businesses and professionals in the diffetent levels of sponsorship; thirdly, to achieve dissemination amongst those professional and academic bodies targeted.
