The Hugh Sinclair Human Nutrition Group is part of the Department of Food Biosciences. It has an international reputation for its research into the relationship between diet and the risk of chronic disease such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurodegenerative disease and cancer. We collaborate with centres of excellence throughout the world and have strong links with food companies.
The activities of the group may be broadly divided into the following research themes: - Dietary fat composition and lipoprotein metabolism - Macronutrient intake and insulin sensitivity - Vascular function and reactivity - Nutrition, Cognition and Food Choice - Nutrigenetics and nutrigenomics - Phytochemicals and oxidative status - Nutrition and immune function - Dietary flavonoids, cell signalling and cognitive function (JPES) - Plants, plant bioactives and cancer - Food production and processing, and enhanced food composition - Probiotics, prebiotics and health - Nutrition support for the critically ill (GG) |
