Hide objective
The target of the research program is the improvement of elastomere covers for textile cylinders, to meet up with actual contemporary production conditions and demands. This means increasing the resistance of elastomeres against chemicals and high temperature and adapt its dynamic properties.
Hide achievements
Based on the obtained results we can state the objectives of productivity and flexibility have been achieved. The textile finishers dispose of better covering with higher lifetime. Better final squeezing will result in lower energy consumption and less waste water. CSM Good formulations on CSM have been adjusted. However they require the use of lead. In view of ecological pressure to avoid the use of lead, the partners agreed not to continue further on this elastomer. They reach out two formulations, one with mineral fillers, the other black filled, both responding to the original demands. EPDM Two formulations, with black fillers and with mineral fillers, give excellent results. They are a good solution for the bathes and the intermediate squeezings. Industrial tests confirm the lab investigation. Already today they exceed largely the current rollers' lifetime, this in the most demanding circumstances. HNBR and PUR Excellent dynamic properties have been obtained based on these two elastomers. Adapted formulations were adjusted for final squeezing. The lab results are most promising while we keep a close eye on the running industrial tests. Based on the new know how and formulations, it is the partners' objective to extend the results of the project to other sectors. Much of the obtained know how can lead to better coverings for steel, paper- and plastic industry.
Hide general information
This project is an overtaking manoeuver from the roller producers, to follow the new trends and new working conditions of the textile finishing machine constructors. A new and better elastomere cover would rise the efficiency and flexibility of the process. At the same time one could obtain a reduction of waste water and a saving of energy. Four colleague enterprises from four different european countries will launch an important joint multidisciplinary research program in cooperation with suppliers, machine constructors and users. This new approach should create synergies and results could possibly be transfered to other sectors after completion of the research program.
