Accurate population evaluation in fish hatcheries and farms is very important at specific development stages of eggs, larvae and fry. Population counting is necessary to adjust food and other products supply and to monitor the general health state of a batch at any given time. Furthermore when larvae or fry are transfered it is essential to know the number with a good accuracy to improve productivity and competitiveness of the farm. The proposal is aiming at the development of a really innovative counting system based on a new processing of 3 dimensional sets of acoustic images acquires with a dedicated array. The data processing architecture will yield new possibilities in applicability and operating procedures. The system shall be easy to use and not require any contract of transfert of the counted population. In the project, all major species of farmed fish are represented an will allow a broad practical feasability of the concept.
